The Museum of the Big Bend at Sul Ross State University is introducing a new opportunity for local children to explore regional history through hands-on creativity. The museum will host a Summer Art Camp from July 21 to 25, 2025, offering an immersive experience for students entering grades 3 through 5.
The camp will run Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a snack break mid-morning. Led by educator Halie Fox, the program will center on the theme “Timeline of the Big Bend,” engaging participants in theme-based art projects, scavenger hunts, and interactive lessons tied to the museum’s collection and the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Participation is limited to 15 children, and early registration is encouraged. Tuition for the camp is $50, with a 10% discount for museum members at the Family level or above, bringing the cost down to $45 for qualifying families.
“This camp offers a unique opportunity for children to connect with local history in a creative and personal way,” said Karina Cantens, the museum’s community engagement coordinator. “It’s a chance to learn and create right here in the heart of Alpine.”
The Museum of the Big Bend has made member families a priority for this inaugural session and encourages others interested in early registration access to consider joining the museum’s membership program.
Parents and guardians can register by contacting Karina Cantens at Karina.Cantens@sulross.edu or calling 432-837-8143.
