Jeff Davis County commissioners have approved the installation of two new signs promoting Keep Fort Davis Beautiful, each sponsored by local families in memory of loved ones.
Pamela Cook, representing Keep Fort Davis Beautiful, presented the request at a recent commissioners court meeting. One sign will be placed at the intersection of Highways 17 and 118 near the Smokey Bear sign. Commissioner John Davis and his wife, Kay, offered to sponsor the $125 sign in memory of George and Pat Grubb.

During the meeting, Fort Davis and Big Bend Realtor Matt Blackman inquired about the possibility of additional signs. When Cook confirmed multiple signs were permitted, Blackman said he and his wife, Melanie, would like to sponsor a second sign in memory of John and Margaret Blackman. The second sign will be located at the northern split of Highways 118 and 17, where traffic heads toward Balmorhea or the state park and observatory.
