Rare earth minerals have been discovered on a 353,785-acre state-owned ranch in Brewster County, according to a recent report by The Big Bend Sentinel. While no mining is currently underway, the General Land Office confirmed a survey found rare earth presence on the rugged, remote property. Officials say any development would require significant planning and remains uncertain.
The finding comes amid a federal push to map domestic sources of critical minerals used in electronics, defense, and renewable energy.
