More than 150 artists from across Texas participated in the 2025 Marfa Invitational Open, held May 15–18 in Marfa. The multi-day event included exhibitions at Saint George Hall and the Marfa Invitational Sculpture Park.
The opening night on Thursday, May 15, featured “MI Monuments ‘25,” a presentation by Katarina Janečková Walshe, Jammie Holmes, Ray Smith, and Sofía Elías. The event took place at the Sculpture Park located at 135 Golf Course Road.
On Friday, May 16, a vernissage at Saint George Hall showcased works from over 150 artists statewide, emphasizing collaborative and cross-disciplinary art. Saturday’s event, “Party Under the Stars,” brought attendees back to the Sculpture Park for a closing night celebration.
Organizers described the Marfa Invitational Open as a major exhibition and survey of Texas artists, presenting works in a salon-style format. The curatorial committee included Sonia Borrell, Lester Marks, and Michael Phelan, who is also the founder and director of the Marfa Invitational.
According to event materials, the open call exhibition aimed to unite artists from North to South, East to West Texas, ranging from emerging to internationally recognized. Artists included Jammie Holmes, Jennifer Arnold, Jorge Villarreal, Lisa Rouse, Serena Ornelas, and many others representing a broad array of disciplines and media.
The event was free and open to the public.
