Fort Davis Community Gathers for Child Abuse Prevention Events

April is National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the critical issue of child abuse and neglect and supporting efforts to protect children in our communities.

Throughout the month, the Jeff Davis County Child Welfare Board worked to engage the community by offering support to families in Valentine, Fort Davis, and the surrounding areas.

This year, the board organized a countywide art contest called My Favorite Family Fun Time. Children were invited to draw and color a picture showing the activities that bring them and their families the most joy and happiness together. An awards ceremony for the art contest will be held Monday at 4:30 p.m. on the north side of the Jeff Davis County Courthouse.

Earlier this month, a Siren Sound Off event took place in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month, with participation from local, state, and regional law enforcement, along with members of the community.

As the month comes to a close, the Jeff Davis County Child Welfare Board is encouraging everyone to remember that we all play a role in preventing child abuse and neglect. Even small acts of kindness — such as offering help to a family in need — can make a significant difference in building stronger protective factors for children and families.

The board emphasizes that the blue ribbons and pinwheels displayed around the community are meant to serve as symbols of hope and reminders that protecting children is a responsibility shared by all.
