Earlier this week, personnel from Terlingua Fire & EMS and Big Bend National Park participated in their biannual Medical Director Training held April 22–24.
The Spring Refresher course covered a range of topics, including airway emergencies, EKG interpretation, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, ultramarathon medicine, prolonged field care, seizures, medication math, visual emergencies, hyperthermia, and mass casualty incidents. In addition to lectures, participants completed scenario-based exercises focused on region-specific medical and mass casualty incident situations.
Deputy Chief J. Thomason, AEMT and public information officer, extended thanks to medical directors Dr. Earle, Dr. Vankawala, and Dr. Spear, along with EMS fellows Dr. Chavez, Dr. Robinson, and Dr. Hossain, for their time and dedication to the departments. Thomason also thanked Brewster County Judge Greg Hennington, EMT-P, for delivering a lecture on abdominal emergencies.
