Glenn Short, instructor of education and professor of practice in counseling at Sul Ross State University, traveled to the University of Murcia in Spain in March for a lecture and research fellowship focused on emotional intelligence.
Short presented “An Exploration of Transformative Emotional Intelligence Skills” and collaborated with Dr. Juan Pedro Martinez Ramon, Dr. Cecilia Maria Ruiz Esteban, and Dr. Maria Immaculada Mendez Mateo of the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology. Together, they conducted a comparative analysis of counseling students from Sul Ross and Murcia, examining emotional intelligence, values, and motivational tendencies.
The fellowship emphasized the practical life philosophy of emotional intelligence, including both interpersonal and intrapersonal aspects of the Transformative Emotional Intelligence (TEI) model. Research explored how these skills are shaped by values, behavior, and motivational frameworks.
While in Spain, Short also conducted literature reviews on school coexistence and factors contributing to educational well-being, investigated high-impact journals for future joint publications, and laid groundwork for collaborative seminars, training courses, and competitive project submissions.
“I am thrilled and deeply honored to have had the opportunity to lecture at the University of Murcia,” said Short. “It is exciting to represent Sul Ross State University in this capacity.”
Founded in 1272, the University of Murcia is the third oldest university in Spain and currently enrolls more than 30,000 students with over 3,000 researchers and lecturers.
