April is National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about child abuse and neglect while supporting efforts to protect children in local communities.
In recognition of the month, the Jeff Davis County Welfare Board is organizing a countywide youth art contest titled “My Favorite Family Fun Time.” The initiative encourages children in Valentine, Fort Davis, and surrounding areas to draw and color a picture of an activity that brings joy and togetherness to their families.
The deadline to submit entries is April 22, 2025. An awards ceremony will be held Monday, April 28, at 4:30 p.m. on the north side of the Jeff Davis County Courthouse.
The contest is part of the board’s broader effort to involve the community in prevention strategies by promoting family engagement and offering support to local families throughout the month.
As part of its message for Child Abuse Prevention Month, the board is reminding residents that everyone has a role to play in protecting children—and that even small acts of kindness can make a difference.
