Chinati Foundation to Host Architecture Symposium in Marfa and Houston

The Chinati Foundation will present a two-part symposium titled “Art in Context: Art, Architecture, and the Middle Landscape,” exploring the intersection of art, architecture, and land. The first installment takes place in Marfa April 4–6, 2025, focusing on Donald Judd’s iconic artillery sheds and the integration of his work within the landscape and architecture of Chinati.

Part I will examine the ongoing restoration and conservation of the buildings housing Judd’s 100 untitled works in mill aluminum, alongside broader discussions about museum architecture and preservation. The second part of the symposium, held November 14–15, 2025, at Rice University in Houston, will extend the conversation to environmental and cultural challenges in contemporary art and architecture.

The event is jointly organized by The Chinati Foundation and Rice School of Architecture, with support from Lee and Mike Cohn and Lori and Alexandre Chemla. For speaker details, registration, and the full schedule, visit chinati.org/symposium2025.
