Ernie Villarreal sentenced to 27 months, ordered to repay $314K to Valentine ISD

Ernie Villarreal, 43, of Marfa, was sentenced Wednesday to 27 months in federal prison and ordered to pay $314,497 in restitution to Valentine ISD.

Villarreal pled guilty in November to eight counts of wire fraud and one count of theft involving federal funds. While working as business manager and tax assessor collector for the district, he used ISD credit cards and checks for personal expenses and routed fraudulent payments to his own account.

U.S. District Judge David Counts issued the sentence in federal court in Pecos.
