First Baptist Church of Fort Davis Hosts Community Meeting on Expansion Plans

First Baptist Church of Fort Davis hosted a public meeting today at 5 p.m. in the church sanctuary to discuss its planned expansion. The meeting, open to the entire community, covered the church’s history, attendance trends, plans for facilities and grounds, architectural renderings, and safety considerations. Church leaders were on hand to answer questions and address how the expansion will impact the community.

The church announced in December that, following a unanimous vote, it would move forward with a comprehensive expansion project to accommodate its growing congregation and enhance its community services. The decision comes as First Baptist Church approaches its 130th anniversary in 2026 and follows a 73% increase in membership over the past three years.

To meet current and future needs, the church plans to develop an indoor-outdoor campus on its existing, contiguous land. The expansion will add more than 14,000 square feet to the church’s facilities and will include:

  • A new sanctuary with increased seating capacity for Sunday services and special events.
  • A fellowship hall for gatherings, meals, and church activities.
  • Additional Sunday school classrooms to support growing children, youth, and adult education programs.
  • A children’s play area to provide a safe and engaging space for families.
  • A multi-use sport court for recreational opportunities for both the church and the broader community.

Church leaders emphasized that the expansion will strengthen First Baptist Church’s ability to serve its congregation while also providing a welcoming space for new members. The meeting gave residents an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share feedback.
