The Big Bend Area Law Enforcement Officers Association (BBALEOA) held its monthly meeting on March 12, 2025, at the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office. Hosted by Sheriff Arvin West, the meeting brought together law enforcement officers from various agencies for discussions on organizational updates, upcoming events, and elections.
Sheriff West provided a Mexican food supper and door prizes for attendees. BBALEOA President Ernesto Lazcano introduced the association’s 2025 officers and directors, including Vice President Stephanie Elmore, Secretary Dave Landersman, Treasurer Clint Fielder, and several directors from law enforcement agencies across the region.
During the meeting, Secretary Landersman presented minutes from the February session and gave the treasurer’s report in Fielder’s absence. Director and By-Laws Committee Chairman Dave Duncan provided an update on proposed changes, which will be posted on the BBALEOA website.
Updates were also given on key association initiatives, including the Billy Hopper Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award, the Law Enforcement Agency of the Year Award, and the BBALEOA scholarship program, all of which have a nomination and application deadline of November 1, 2025. Executive Director Ed Krevit reported on the success of the 1st Annual BBALEOA Training Conference and announced that the 2nd Annual Conference is tentatively scheduled for January 25-27, 2026, at the Odessa Marriott Convention Center.
The 2025 BBALEOA Memorial Ceremony is set for May 28 at 10 a.m. at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, hosted by the Ector County I.S.D. Police Department. Additionally, an election for a new treasurer will take place at the annual awards ceremony on December 10 in Pecos.
Dignitaries attending the meeting included sheriffs from Hudspeth, Loving, Reeves, Presidio, and Jeff Davis counties, Texas Ranger Brent Mata, and Virginia Allen from The Daily Signal in Washington, D.C.
The association expressed gratitude to Manuel Rios of S&M Services for sponsoring the supper and to Jim Westerman of Branding West for providing a new registration table banner and BBALEOA caps.
