Fort Davis ISD Superintendent Placed on Administrative Leave

The Fort Davis Independent School District Board of Trustees placed Superintendent Graydon Hicks on paid administrative leave during a special meeting on Sunday. The board voted unanimously on the decision and appointed Junior High and High School Principal Selena Martin as acting superintendent, effective immediately.

The school board has not provided a reason for the action. “As a district, we do not discuss personnel issues with the media or general public as a general rule,” Board President James Weaver wrote in a statement sent to The Big Bend Sentinel.

Hicks, who has served as superintendent since 2014 and was previously a teacher in the district, stated that he was not given an explanation for the decision and was not allowed to speak at the meeting. “The only thing I can say is, one, I don’t know exactly what’s going on, and two, I can’t say anything other than that,” Hicks told The Sentinel.

According to Hicks, he and his wife, Tammy, who works for the district as a Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) coordinator, were escorted out of the meeting by a Jeff Davis County deputy following a tense exchange with board members.
