Students from across West Texas and the Big Bend region participated in the 2025 Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering Youth Contest, showcasing their talent for cowboy poetry. Several winners and honorable mentions will present their poems at the youth poetry session on Feb. 22 at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
Locally recognized winners include:
- Level 2: First Place – Skylar Hernandez (Fort Davis ISD)
- Level 2: Second Place – Charleigh Kaye Engle (Home School, Van Horn)
- Level 3: First Place – Alexandra Williams (Fort Davis ISD)
- Level 4: First Place – Kaela Baize (Home School, Marfa)
- Level 5: First Place – Annaliese West (Marathon ISD)
- Level 5: Third Place – Chelsea Hernandez (Fort Davis ISD)
The youth poetry session will take place at 11 a.m. in Lawrence Hall on the Sul Ross State University campus, featuring performances by Maggie Rose and Jubal Hedges on the fiddle.
