Shakers No Secret, a quarter horse co-owned by Fort Davis businessman and Chamber of Commerce President Manny Dutchover, secured his second Grade 1 victory on Sunday at Sunland Park, taking home the $350,000 Championship.
In a tightly contested 440-yard race, jockey Christian Ramos guided Shakers No Secret past Kj Desparado in the final stretch to win by a neck, finishing in 20.99 seconds. The victory marks his third win in four starts, including last October’s Grade 1 AQHA Challenge Championship in Albuquerque.
The win also served as redemption, as Shakers No Secret had lost to Kj Desparado in the same race last year. A large group of supporters from Fort Davis and the Big Bend region was on hand to celebrate the victory.
