A contingent of approximately 200 Mexican National Guard troops arrived in Ojinaga on Wednesday afternoon, part of a larger deployment of 2,600 troops to Chihuahua’s northern border, including Juárez, Puerto Palomas, and Ojinaga.
The deployment follows an agreement between Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and U.S. President Donald Trump to strengthen border security along the U.S.-Mexico border. In total, more than 10,000 National Guard members have been sent to Mexico’s northern states.
The troops in Ojinaga were seen arriving in National Guard trucks and pickups, refueling before heading west toward the highway connecting Ojinaga and Chihuahua City.
This increased presence comes as part of broader efforts to curb migration and enhance border enforcement, impacting crossings at Presidio-Ojinaga and other ports of entry. Further details on the scope of operations in Ojinaga are expected in the coming days.
