The Alpine City Council voted unanimously to postpone the sale of a five-acre city-owned property at N. 16th and Brown Streets to Michael and Lynn McCarson during its January 21 meeting.
The property, currently zoned R2 for duplex development, dates back to a 1970s plat consisting of 80 lots. McCarson proposed a replat to consolidate the land into 10 lots and requested to purchase city-owned streets within the property to facilitate the replat.
Concerns arose over utility, waste collection, and emergency service access, as Olive Street would become the sole access point. Ward 3 Councilor Darin Nance emphasized the need to retain Avenue C as a public right-of-way, a position supported by City Manager Megan Antrim.
The postponement allows time for further discussions with the purchaser to clarify access through Avenue C before moving forward with the sale.
