The Alpine City Council approved new rules and regulations for city parks by amending Chapter 74 of the Alpine Code of Ordinances during its January 21 meeting.
The ordinance establishes permitting processes for festivals, events, and alcohol consumption while extending park hours from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
A proposal to allow alcohol consumption in parks failed, with Ward 1 Councilor Reagan Stone and Ward 4 Councilor Lucy Escovedo supporting the measure, but the majority voting against it.
“If people want to drink, there are plenty of places for people who want to drink,” said Ward 5 Councilor Rick Stephens. “Parks are for families.”
Alcohol consumption will remain prohibited except by special permit for festivals and events.
