School leaders from across the Big Bend region convened at the Texas Capitol today to advocate for the children of their communities. Representatives from Alpine ISD, Presidio ISD, San Vicente ISD, and Valentine ISD met with Texas House Representative Eddie Morales and Texas Senator César Blanco to discuss legislative priorities vital to rural schools.
The discussions focused on key issues such as school funding, teacher pay raises, school safety allotments, and addressing the unique challenges faced by underfunded rural schools.
Alpine ISD’s delegation included Superintendent Dr. Michelle Rinehart, Director of Curriculum & Special Programs Mrs. Caroline Fox, and Alpine High School Principal & BB-RISE Regional Director Mr. Jarrett Vickers.
“We are grateful to Rep. Morales and Sen. Blanco for their leadership and commitment to supporting the children of West Texas,” said Dr. Rinehart. “Our schools face unique challenges, and their advocacy is crucial to ensuring our students and educators have the resources they need.”
The collaboration among school leaders highlights the shared commitment to improving education opportunities across the Big Bend region. By joining forces, these districts aim to amplify the voices of their communities and advocate for policies that will benefit students, teachers, and families in West Texas.
