The Mexican Army and National Guard seized a significant arsenal following an armed confrontation in Coyame del Sotol. Federal forces repelled an attack from an organized crime cell while patrolling a ranch in the area.
Although no arrests were reported, the operation resulted in the confiscation of 22 firearms, including .50-caliber Barrett rifles, as well as thousands of rounds of ammunition and other equipment. Authorities released images of the seized items on January 16, 2025.
The incident occurred when National Guard units encountered a suspicious vehicle whose occupants exhibited evasive behavior. Upon approaching, federal agents came under fire from armed individuals attempting to escape in a convoy of vehicles. The ensuing confrontation led to the recovery of the following items:

- 3 Barrett .50-caliber rifles
- 5 machine guns (7.62 and 5.56 calibers)
- 12 assault rifles (7.62 and 5.56 calibers)
- 1 submachine gun (.5.7 caliber)
- 1 rifle (.300 caliber)
- 10,246 cartridges of various calibers
- 187 magazines
- 16 bulletproof vests
- 12 tactical gear sets
- 6 metal ammunition boxes
- 196 doses of apparent cocaine
- 1 container of apparent cocaine
The operation highlighted the ongoing security challenges in the region. Federal forces emphasized their commitment to combating organized crime and ensuring public safety.
