Future of West Holland Avenue in Alpine Uncertain After Devastating Fire

The charred remains of the 100 block of West Holland Avenue, once a cornerstone of Alpine’s downtown business district, continue to cast uncertainty over the area’s future following a devastating fire on May 26.

Property owner Bill Ivey recently spoke with the Alpine Avalanche about the impact of the fire and the challenges ahead for his family. Ivey lost not only his office and personal art collection but also rental income from businesses housed in the building.

Cleanup efforts are currently stalled due to regulatory requirements, including asbestos and structural reports mandated by the city.

Despite the tragedy, Ivey expressed gratitude for the Alpine community’s efforts to support the affected businesses and artists through fundraising initiatives. The community’s response highlights the resilience and solidarity that defines the town.

The future of the site remains unclear as the necessary reports and approvals are awaited.
