The Brewster County community came together today to pay their respects to Alex Lopez, a dispatcher and former School Resource Sergeant, who was laid to rest in a ceremony marked by profound gratitude and communal support. Lopez, who served with distinction and dedication, was remembered for his commitment to public safety and community service.
The funeral procession saw an overwhelming show of solidarity from numerous law enforcement agencies. Notable contributions came from the Alpine Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), U.S. Border Patrol, along with officers from Presidio County, Marfa Police Department, and Culberson County, who participated in the procession and managed traffic control, ensuring a smooth ceremony.
A special acknowledgment was given to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Game Wardens. In a generous act of support, they covered emergency calls in Alpine, which allowed deputies from Brewster County Sheriff’s Office to attend the services without interruption to local law enforcement coverage.
The collective efforts of these agencies underscore the deep bonds within the law enforcement community and their shared commitment to honor a fellow officer. The presence of numerous officers and agencies at the service highlighted the impact Sergeant Lopez had on his community and his enduring legacy in the field of public safety.
