Carolina Cataño has been appointed the new Presidio County Clerk, set to take office on January 1, following a recent decision by the Presidio County Commissioners Court. Cataño, who has been serving as Deputy Clerk since 2021 under the outgoing County Clerk Florcita Zubia, will assume her new role as Zubia transitions to become the county treasurer.
The change comes amid a broader reshuffle at the courthouse, prompted by the retirement announcement of Frances Garcia, the current County Treasurer, effective at the end of this year. Cataño will not only take on the responsibilities of the county clerk but will also serve as the district clerk and elections administrator. This consolidation of roles is seen as a move to streamline operations and reduce costs, a practice that is becoming more common in smaller counties like Presidio.
