First Baptist Church of Fort Davis is set to undergo a comprehensive expansion to accommodate its increasing membership and enhance community services. This initiative, which follows a unanimous vote by church members, is in anticipation of its 130th anniversary in 2026. The Jeff Davis County Mountain Dispatch reported that the church has experienced a significant 73% growth in membership over the past three years.
Responding to the needs of a younger and expanding congregation, the church plans to develop an indoor-outdoor campus on its existing land. This expansion will include a new sanctuary with increased seating capacity, a spacious fellowship hall, additional Sunday school classrooms, a children’s play area, and a multiuse sport court, adding more than 14,000 square feet to its current facilities.
The expansion aims to create a welcoming environment for new members and provide versatile spaces not only for worship but also for community gatherings and youth activities.
As the church approaches a significant milestone in its history, these enhancements are seen as a forward-looking vision that honors its longstanding heritage while preparing for a vibrant future. Fundraising efforts for the expansion have already begun, with church leaders inviting community members and church supporters to contribute to the envisioned growth and service expansion.
