Jeff Davis County Officials Wrongly Portray Local Publisher as Threat, Reveals County Attorney

As the publisher of Big Bend Times, I have been forced to navigate through deeply troubling mischaracterizations by Jeff Davis County officials. These unfounded portrayals came to light during a critical conversation with County Attorney Glenn Eisen, which centered on discussions within the courthouse that have erroneously painted me as a potential violent threat.

This issue arose unexpectedly after I mentioned selling my firearms during a discussion about another matter entirely—remarks made by Justice of the Peace Mary Ann Luedecke, which I had learned about at Sheriff Ronnie Dodson’s gun shop. My decision to sell my firearms was purely pragmatic, influenced by my move from a rural ranch to a city environment where such measures were no longer necessary due to a robust police presence and the absence of wildlife threats.

However, it was this mention of no longer possessing firearms that prompted Eisen to reveal that there had already been discussions among courthouse officials about me. Shockingly, these discussions had falsely categorized me as a potential threat—a serious mischaracterization with no basis in fact. It became clear that these courthouse discussions were not only speculative but dangerously misleading, potentially influencing how local law enforcement might perceive or interact with me.

This revelation is alarming, especially given my history as a victim of violent crime and my commitment to community service through hospice, crime stoppers, and Meals on Wheels. The idea that my character and intentions were so grossly misrepresented within official channels is not only offensive but highlights a significant breach of trust and due process within the local government.

The Big Bend Times is committed to upholding the truth and ensuring that such distortions are brought to light and addressed. We call on the community and our readers to remain vigilant and to challenge any such damaging narratives perpetuated by those in power. It is crucial that we work together to protect the integrity and safety of all individuals, particularly those who may be unjustly targeted by misinformed or malicious governmental narratives.
