Big Bend Conservation Alliance Successfully Hosts Tree Giveaway at Presidio Library

The Big Bend Conservation Alliance recently celebrated a significant milestone with its tree giveaway event at the Presidio Public Library earlier this month. In partnership with Project Homeleaf, this initiative marked the distribution of the 750th tree under the Tree Equity in the Big Bend program, which aims to enhance tree coverage in areas lacking green spaces across three counties.

This year’s event was supported by the Presidio County Sheriff’s Department, with Chief Deputy Joel Nuñez and Deputy Saul Pardo providing essential help by transporting trees from north to south county. Their assistance ensured that the trees reached the giveaway location on time, facilitating a successful event on November 7.

The donated trees, provided by Apache Corporation, are part of a broader effort to foster environmental justice and beautify the region. Apache Corporation’s commitment involves donating tens of thousands of trees annually to nonprofits across Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico, significantly bolstering local greening efforts.

The giveaway at Presidio Public Library not only celebrated the distribution of the 750th tree by the Big Bend Conservation Alliance but also highlighted the community’s active participation in enhancing their local environment. This initiative continues to demonstrate the power of community and corporate partnerships in driving significant environmental improvements and fostering a greater sense of communal responsibility towards natural conservation.
