Dirks-Anderson Elementary School is set to conduct its annual parent-child reunification drill on November 8, aimed at practicing emergency evacuation procedures. The drill will involve all students from pre-kindergarten through Grade 5 and staff members, who will evacuate to the Fort Davis National Historic Site.
This state-mandated exercise is designed to train and prepare both families and school staff for efficient emergency responses. “This drill will help us act quickly in reconnecting students with their families,” said Principal Shera Welch. The evacuation will begin at 3:15 pm, with parents and guardians instructed to pick up their children starting at 3:35 pm.
Parents are required to meet their children at the sidewalk of the Fort’s parking lot, where school personnel will facilitate the reunification. For the safety and security of the students, children will only be released to individuals listed on the student’s Student Information Card, and legal identification such as a driver’s license, passport, or military ID must be presented.
Students are advised not to bring backpacks or lunch boxes during the drill and will not return to the school post-drill. Parents should ensure that any lunches sent are in disposable bags or sacks. For additional information, contact the school at 432-426-4454.
