According to a report by the Big Bend Sentinel, Marfa ISD’s school board meeting introduced the Rural Pathway Excellence Program (RPEP) aimed at expanding career training opportunities. Yvonne Realivasquez, director of the new initiative, outlined the program’s goals to increase local career options for students in Marfa, Alpine, and Marathon ISDs. The program, still in its planning year, seeks to prepare students for high-demand, high-wage jobs and could potentially bring in additional state funding of $3,000 to $4,500 per student, addressing the low state funding levels currently received by schools in the region.
