Students from Region 18 had the opportunity to delve into the world of herpetology during the recent Herps Day held at the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute (CDRI). The educational event, designed to increase awareness and understanding of reptiles, particularly snakes, featured a variety of activities including venomous snake identification, first aid for snake bites, and a captivating live snake demonstration.
The program was led by members of the Sul Ross State University Biology Club, assisted by dedicated volunteers from the nature center. Participants also engaged in an interactive snake game, designed to educate them on snake behavior and safety in an enjoyable way.
Herps Day at CDRI provided a hands-on learning experience, aiming to foster a greater appreciation and respect for these often-misunderstood creatures. The event is part of CDRI’s ongoing efforts to educate the community about the diverse wildlife of the Chihuahuan Desert through engaging and informative programs.
