Sul Ross State University Lecturer Selected for Prestigious National Leadership Program

Julie Vega, a lecturer in the Department of Languages and Literature at Sul Ross State University (SRSU), has been named to the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities’ (HACU) second cohort of the Enlace Mid-level Leadership Program. Vega is one of 54 professionals selected from across the United States to participate in this elite development initiative starting this fall.

The Enlace Mid-level Leadership Program is a six-month endeavor tailored for mid-level college and university professionals. It aims to bolster the number, variety, and quality of Latino/a leaders in academic positions within Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and higher education at large. The program’s curriculum includes academic and student affairs management, regional institutional accreditation, and advocacy issues in higher education.

Participants in the program will benefit from a blend of online meetings and in-person sessions. These sessions include a gathering at HACU’s Annual Conference in Aurora, Colorado, in November 2024, and at the National Capitol Forum in Washington, D.C., in April 2025. The program will culminate with a graduation ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the participants’ professional journeys.

Sul Ross State University, designated as an HSI by the Department of Education since 1999, continues to support its faculty in achieving roles that enhance their leadership capabilities and extend their impact on the academic community. Vega’s selection into this prestigious program underscores SRSU’s commitment to advancing educational leadership and providing enriched opportunities for its faculty and students alike.
