Construction on The High Frontier, a luxury resort and event venue located on a 320-acre ranch southeast of Fort Davis, is in its final stages. With a soft opening slated for November 15, 2024, this expansive property, led by Marfa hotelier Tim Crowley, is set to provide upscale accommodations and a variety of event spaces amidst the scenic backdrop of the Davis Mountains.

The project, which has been in development for several years, involves both new construction and restoration of existing structures. Notably, a historic adobe building, once part of a former horse ranch and later a rehabilitation school, is being transformed into a luxurious suite. According to General Manager Matt Walker, the resort’s design aims to blend modern amenities with the rugged beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Event spaces include a repurposed school gymnasium and dining hall, which will now serve as a venue and restaurant, respectively. In addition to upscale lodging, the resort will offer a wellness center, outdoor pool, and farm-to-table restaurant slated to open in 2025. Hiking and biking trails are also being developed for guests seeking outdoor activities.
High Frontier is designed to host events for up to 800 people, including weddings, corporate retreats, and family gatherings. Its accommodations, which will also be available on Airbnb, will cater to those seeking a luxury escape in the heart of Far West Texas.
Crowley, known for his work on Marfa’s Hotel Saint George, envisions the resort as a destination for those seeking both relaxation and adventure in a remote setting. The High Frontier’s development, incorporating dark-sky friendly lighting and native plant restoration, reflects a commitment to preserving the natural environment while offering high-end amenities.
