Alpine 7th and 8th Grade Fightin’ Bucks Face Mixed Results Against Odessa Compass Cougars

The Alpine 7th and 8th grade Fightin’ Bucks had a challenging and eventful day as they took on the visiting Odessa Compass Cougars.

In the 7th-grade matchup, the Bucks faced a tough opponent and struggled to find their footing, ultimately falling 32-0. Despite the loss, standout player Jeffrey Castillo made an impact with an interception and several long runs, demonstrating his skill and determination on the field. Injuries plagued the team throughout the game, with multiple key players forced to leave the field, complicating their efforts. The team now looks forward to two weeks off from competition, which they hope will provide time to heal and regroup for their next challenge.

The 8th-grade Fightin’ Bucks, however, secured a commanding 22-6 victory over the Odessa Compass Cougars. After allowing the Cougars to score first, the Bucks quickly responded, with a 45-yard touchdown pass from Colt Billings to Emerson Roach igniting momentum. Defensive highlights included a key fumble recovery by Jaden Roggow and an interception by Cooper Roach. On offense, Zane DeLeon led the charge with two rushing touchdowns, and Matthias Prieto added to the effort with several significant runs, putting the Bucks in prime scoring positions. The combination of a strong offense and solid defensive plays helped secure the victory, showcasing the resilience and teamwork of the 8th-grade Fightin’ Bucks.
