Marfa ISD Athletic Director Linda Ojeda will lead the Sul Ross State University Homecoming Parade as Grand Marshal on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. The parade will start at the Alpine Civic Center and proceed east down Holland Avenue, finishing at Jackson Field.
Ojeda, a graduate of Del Rio High School, moved to Alpine in 2001 to pursue her studies at Sul Ross State University (SRSU). She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in English in 2005 and a master’s degree in Education in 2009.
During her time at SRSU, Ojeda was a standout athlete, playing four years of softball under Coaches Tracy Tadlock and Troy Canaba. She received numerous honors, including ASC All-West Division catcher (2002) and third baseman (2003-2005), and was named Sul Ross Defensive Player of the Year (2002) and Most Valuable Player (2005). Ojeda also played on the Lady Lobos basketball team during her freshman and sophomore years and was crowned the 2004 Sul Ross State University Homecoming Queen.
Ojeda’s career in education began with teaching and coaching roles in Van Horn before she moved to Marfa ISD in 2008. In 2017, she became the first female Athletic Director in the Big Bend area, guiding several championship teams deep into the UIL state playoffs, including three appearances in the Regional Championships. Her leadership has been recognized at both state and local levels, including serving on the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s All-State selection committees for softball and volleyball, and on the Texas Council of Women School Executives Planning Board.
Ojeda’s dedication extends beyond athletics. She revitalized the Frontier CASA program as president, supporting court-appointed advocates for children in foster care. In February 2023, she was inducted into the Sul Ross State University Hall of Honor for her achievements.
As the Athletic Director at Marfa ISD, Ojeda has been an advocate for women’s sports and public education in the Big Bend area. She also served as the MISD secondary principal from 2022 to 2024.
