The Big Bend Sentinel has reported that Jeff Davis County EMS Chief Peggy Fonseca was terminated by county commissioners this week following a heated public session discussing her leadership and the department’s budget issues. The commissioners voted 4-1 to dismiss Fonseca, with County Judge Curtis Evans opposing the decision, calling it a “knee jerk reaction.” Fonseca, who was escorted from the courthouse by law enforcement, expressed that the move was unjust and could jeopardize the community’s EMS services. The Big Bend Times was not present at the meeting due to threats made against our publisher by local law enforcement. For full coverage, visit The Big Bend Sentinel’s report.
