BBT Expands Reach in West Texas with Acquisition of TDS Telecom’s Cable Operations

Big Bend Telecom, LTD. (BBT), a long-standing telecommunications provider in West Texas, has entered into a purchase agreement with TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) to acquire TDS’ cable operations in Alpine and Fort Stockton. The agreement, signed on August 19, 2024, marks a significant expansion for BBT as it continues to bridge the digital divide in rural communities across the region.

BBT, an affiliate of Big Bend Telephone Company, has served rural West Texas for over six decades. Founded in 1960 by Neville Haynes, the company has grown under the leadership of his grandson, Justin Haynes, who acquired the company in 2005. BBT is recognized for providing high-speed fiber internet, voice, and data center solutions to residents, institutions, and businesses within its 18,000 square mile service area.

As part of this acquisition, eight local TDS Field Service associates will transition to BBT, ensuring that customers in Alpine and Fort Stockton experience continuity of service and support.

“We are excited to welcome the TDS customers and associates to the BBT family,” said Rusty Moore, General Manager and COO of BBT. “This acquisition aligns with our mission to provide exceptional service and innovative solutions to the communities we serve. We look forward to enhancing connectivity and continuing the legacy of quality service we devote across West Texas.”

The transaction is expected to be finalized in the fourth quarter of 2024.
