A devastating fire on May 26th, 2024, consumed Gallery on the Square and neighboring establishments, including Judy’s Bread and Breakfast, Eva’s Salon, and Snazzy Things, on West Holland Avenue. Despite the extensive damage, there were no casualties reported, thanks to the swift response of firefighters and the community.
Gallery on the Square, known for its vibrant art exhibitions, was among the properties destroyed in the blaze. In response to this tragic loss, plans are underway to merge the spirit of Gallery on the Square with CatchLight Gallery, reimagining themselves as the newly envisioned Big Bend Gallery. Located just two doors down from the original site, the Big Bend Arts Council (BBAC) aims to unveil this rejuvenated cultural hub in the fall of 2024.
“We are deeply saddened by the fire’s impact on Gallery on the Square and our neighboring businesses,” expressed a spokesperson for the BBAC. “The new Big Bend Gallery will honor the legacy of Gallery on the Square while bringing fresh artistic vision to Alpine.”
