The Presidio Independent School District (PISD) is set to launch a Dual Credit EMT program in collaboration with Odessa College this fall. This initiative aims to provide Presidio High School (PHS) students the opportunity to graduate with an EMT Basic Certification, enabling them to work as medics in the field immediately upon graduation.
Chief Joel Nuñez, Jr. of the PISD Department of Public Safety announced the program, highlighting a recent visit to Odessa College. The visit included discussions with the Dean of Health Sciences and Dayton Denton, Fire and EMS Director, who have both been instrumental in guiding the development of these courses in Presidio.
Odessa College has recently completed construction on a state-of-the-art simulation hospital equipped with advanced technology designed to simulate live scenarios for medical training. This facility will be a significant asset in providing high-quality education and practical experience for students enrolled in the EMT program.
“This is a new program at PHS and we encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Nuñez. Interested students and parents can contact the Early College High School (ECHS) Coordinator at PHS for more information at 432-229-1100.
The Dual Credit EMT program represents a valuable opportunity for PHS students to gain essential skills and certification, paving the way for immediate employment in the medical field upon graduation.
