An unexpected hailstorm swept through Brewster County yesterday, transforming the area into what locals described as an out-of-season winter wonderland. The storm, which produced quarter-sized hail, was reported by the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office earlier in the evening, causing slick roads and some vehicles to become stuck.

The Marathon Motel & RV Park took to Facebook to share the unusual event. “Yesterday’s unexpected hailstorm transformed Marathon into an out-of-season winter wonderland. While snow is not uncommon here, this spring surprise sure was! Embrace the beauty and unpredictability of nature with us,” the post read.
CBS7 also reported on the storm via Twitter, highlighting the significant accumulation of hail that resulted in hazardous driving conditions throughout the county.
In an official statement, the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office advised residents to avoid roadways due to the slick conditions caused by the hail. “A large storm moved through the eastern side of Brewster County this evening. Please avoid the roadways due to the accumulation of hail causing roads to be slick. Several vehicles have been stuck due to the conditions.”
