The Museum of the Big Bend at Sul Ross State University is gearing up for the opening of its spring exhibition, “Andy Warhol: Cowboys and Indians,” set to begin on March 1st. Warhol’s 1986 portfolio, featuring 14 prints, portrays a mixture of historical figures and media interpretations, creating a vibrant fantasy of the American West. This series highlights Warhol’s fascination with American cultural icons and serves as a significant testament to his impact on the art world.
Complementing Warhol’s work, the exhibition will also feature 1900s photogravures of Native Americans by Edward S. Curtis and the 1939 Indian Court Series screen prints by Louis Siegriest from the MoBB’s permanent collection. These additional pieces provide a broader context to the themes explored by Warhol, enriching the narrative of the American West in visual culture.
