Marfa Public Radio, an award-winning non-profit, listener-supported public radio serving West Texas, is proud to announce the appointment of Yvonne Lujan as its new Station Manager. The decision to bring Lujan on board was met with excitement and optimism from both staff and community members.
Yvonne’s connection to Marfa runs deep, having grown up in the town and attended Marfa High School. Elise Pepple, Executive Director of Marfa Public Radio, shared, “As soon as Yvonne stepped through the doors of the station, it was clear she was a leader.” Her roots in the community, coupled with her leadership experience, make her a natural fit for the role.
In an interview with Pepple, Lujan expressed her love for Marfa’s community involvement and engagement across all ages. Lujan’s dedication to empathy and inclusion is evident in her vision for Marfa Public Radio. “Empathy and inclusion. I want everyone to feel like a part of things. I want people to feel like they belong and can come together,” she emphasized.
One of Lujan’s favorite aspects of Marfa Public Radio is the local DJ program, highlighting shows like Dos Horas con Primo, where she enjoys connecting with listeners through song requests and dedications. “One of my favorite shows is Dos Horas con Primo, because I get to take calls from all over for song requests and dedications,” Lujan shared.
As Marfa Public Radio continues its mission to serve the diverse communities of West Texas, the appointment of Yvonne Lujan marks an exciting chapter in the station’s history, promising new opportunities for growth and engagement.
