Sul Ross State University (SRSU) is set to expand its academic horizons by offering a variety of new degrees and certifications starting Fall 2024. These programs, pending accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), are designed to cater to the evolving demands of the job market.
Expanding Academic Offerings Across Three Colleges
Each of the three colleges at SRSU is gearing up to introduce unique programs. Executive Vice President and Provost, Bernie Cantens, expressed enthusiasm about the growth and relevance of these new offerings, emphasizing their alignment with market needs and the university’s commitment to equipping students with essential skills for success.
Jimmy D. Case College of Literature, Arts and Social Sciences
The Master of Arts in Anthropology program, situated in the rich historical context of the Big Bend area, aims to provide students with top-notch training and research opportunities. This program is complemented by the anthropology minor and focuses on producing graduates proficient in cultural heritage science and related fields.
A groundbreaking Graduate Certificate in Spanish for Professions is also on the cards. Tailored to meet the growing need for Spanish language proficiency in various professional fields, this online certificate is a first in Texas, aiming to bridge cultural and linguistic gaps in the professional world.
College of Agriculture, Life and Physical Sciences
An MBA with a concentration in Supply Chain Management is being introduced, aligning with Texas’ significant role in global trade and shipping. This program aims to blend business management skills with technical expertise in supply chain management, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in this sector. A complementary 12-credit Graduate Certificate in Supply Chain Management will also be available.
The college is also initiating a 27-hour Undergraduate Certificate in Interior Design and Construction, in line with the NKBA’s Affiliated Schools Program, offering students comprehensive training in residential design and construction.
College of Education and Professional Studies
The introduction of a Graduate Certificate in Border Security and Management caters to professionals in law enforcement, emergency management, and related sectors, offering an extensive online curriculum.
Moreover, a Master of Science in Forensic Science, including a concentration in digital forensics, is being launched. This program is designed for those interested in various forensic science careers, responding to the growing need for professionals in this field.
Additionally, an MBA with a concentration in International Trade is being offered, providing an in-depth understanding of global trade complexities and preparing graduates for diverse management roles in various industries.
