80th BBLSA Stock Show: A Showcase of Young Talent and Livestock Expertise

The 80th Annual Big Bend Livestock Show Association (BBLSA) Stock Show is set to captivate audiences from January 11 to 13, 2024, featuring a dynamic schedule of events. This year’s show promises to be a vibrant display of agricultural skill and animal husbandry, as children aged 8-18 from Jeff Davis, Brewster, and Presidio counties in Texas exhibit animals they have meticulously raised.

Three-Day Event Packed with Excitement

The stock show kicks off on Thursday, January 11, with the weigh-in for hogs, lambs, goats, and steers at different locations. The AISD Ag Barn will be bustling with activity for the weigh-ins of hogs, lambs, and goats from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, while steer weigh-in is scheduled at the Hill Top pens between 4:00 and 4:30 pm. A key rule for participants is that all animals must be weighed in by 6:00 pm.

Friday, January 12, begins bright and early with the lamb show at 9:00 am at the AISD Ag Barn. This will be followed by the goat show and later the steer show at 1:00 pm or immediately after the goat show. The day concludes with the much-anticipated Horse Show at 5:30 pm in the Sul Ross SALE Arena.

Saturday, January 13, sees the swine show commencing at 9:00 am, followed by a new addition this year – the Rabbit Show. The excitement moves to the Alpine Civic Center for the awards and sale. At 6:00 pm, buyer’s registration and a social event set the stage for the awards program at 6:30 pm, which includes presentations of Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Buckles, Showmanship Buckles, and recognitions for honorees and seniors. The auction, featuring the return of auctioneer Rusty Mertink, begins at 7:00 pm.

Culinary Delights and Auction Details

Food enthusiasts will be pleased to find the concession stand opening at 7:00 am on both Friday and Saturday. The menu features breakfast burritos, donuts, hot chocolate, camp coffee, soft drinks, and water. For lunch, attendees can enjoy Cabrito and Brisket Burritos on Friday and an expanded menu including Pulled Pork Burritos on Saturday.
