Reeves County is taking steps to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance safety on US 285 and the surrounding areas by introducing the proposed Reeves County Truck Reliever Route. The county is inviting the public to have their say at a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The meeting, designed in an open house format, will be held at the Odessa College Pecos Center, located at 1000 S. Eddy St., Pecos, TX 79722.
The central aim of the proposed Reeves County Truck Reliever Route is to address traffic congestion issues and enhance overall mobility and connectivity within Pecos. This project, with terminus points positioned 0.3 miles south of CR 404 and 0.3 miles south of CR 1450 along US 285, will offer an alternative route for intercity traffic, effectively bypassing the central business district (CBD) of Pecos.
At its core, the project entails the development of a four-lane Urban Freeway complemented by a frontage road facility. This network will seamlessly encircle the Pecos CBD and its neighboring regions, stretching over a total length of approximately 16.3 miles. With a proposed right-of-way width of around 300 feet, this initiative represents a significant step towards improving traffic conditions in the area.
The western loop of the Reeves County Truck Reliever Route project will encompass critical road enhancements. These improvements will include the widening of sections along Farm-to-Market Road 2119 (FM 2119), CR 410, and Lindsay Road, all contributing to a smoother traffic flow.
