A recent malware attack has temporarily halted operations on several computers within the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s office, according to Sheriff Bill Kitts.
Sheriff Kitts informed the community that while the incident has affected his own computer and the computers of two deputies, there has been no data breach. To prevent further complications, they have ceased using the affected computers until the issue is resolved.
For about two weeks now, Sheriff Kitts has been unable to access his county email due to the malware-related complications.
CTSI, the county’s technology vendor, was on-site on October 20 to diagnose the situation. As of now, efforts are underway to fix the issues and return the computer systems to full functionality.
