CCSCT’s Weatherization Program Marks 47 Years of Empowering Communities

The Community Council of South Central Texas (CCSCT) is inviting the community to celebrate the remarkable achievements of its Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) as it commemorates its 47th anniversary of National Weatherization Day. This event serves as an opportunity for residents to discover the program’s benefits and its profound impact on the community.

The Weatherization Open House is scheduled for October 20th, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., taking place at two locations: 400 S. Getty in Uvalde, TX, and 461 US HWY 285 in Fort Stockton, TX. Residents are encouraged to drop by to enjoy snacks, win door prizes, and gain insights into the manifold advantages offered by this vital program.

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) holds immense significance, prioritizing service to vulnerable groups, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, and households with children. Since its inception in 1976, WAP has brought energy efficiency improvements to over 7 million households. These enhancements encompass heating and cooling upgrades, insulation installation, air sealing, improved home air quality, and enhanced safety measures. The program employs a holistic approach, analyzing individual homes comprehensively to maximize energy and cost savings. With rigorous analyses driving its efforts, WAP has emerged as a leader in advancing home energy science, delivering energy-efficiency services to low-income households.

WAP’s reach extends across the nation, serving every county through a network of state and local agencies. In the South Central Texas region, CCSCT’s Weatherization Assistance Services are available in Brewster, Crane, Culberson, Dimmit, Edwards, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, Kinney, La Salle, Maverick, Pecos, Presidio, Real, Terrell, Uvalde, Val Verde, and Zavala counties.
