Miguel Valverde Unveils ‘Roots of Life and Death’ in Presidio: A Glimpse into Dia de los Muertos-Inspired Artistry

On Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 6 pm, art enthusiasts and culture seekers will gather at the Presidio Municipal Development District Office, situated at 608 W O’Reilly St, Presidio, TX 79845, for a spectacular unveiling. Celebrated Mexican artist, Miguel Valverde, is set to present his latest collection, ‘Roots of Life and Death’, inspired by the rich traditions of Dia de los Muertos.

Valverde, a native of Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, born in 1980, is no stranger to the global art limelight. An alumnus of the Institute of Fine Arts of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, his illustrious career has seen his works featured not only across Mexico but also in countries like Germany, Austria, Belgium, and the USA.

Known for his impressive mural and sculptural creations, Valverde’s portfolio boasts over fifty murals, each echoing his unique ability to intertwine culture and creativity. His mural, “Semillas del Cosmos”, adorning the World Museum in Vienna, Austria, and the mural “A two out of three falls, without a time limit” in Arena México, Mexico City, celebrating the 80th anniversary of Lucha Libre, stand as testaments to his prowess.

Beyond murals, Valverde’s artistry is evident in his sculptures. Using diverse materials like resin, metal, and ceramics, he has crafted monumental pieces such as “Bajo Segundo”, “Acordeón”, and “Clave de sol”, which are prominently featured in the sculpture corridor in Ojinaga, Chihuahua.

The list of accolades he’s received is impressive, notably including the David Alfaro Siqueiros Creation Stimuli Program and the 2019 Professional Excellence Award by Rotary International Cuauhtémoc. His role as a cultural manager has further positioned him as an emblematic figure in the arts, contributing significantly to the artistic expansion in regions from Chihuahua to as far as Brussels and Vienna.

For attendees of the ‘Roots of Life and Death’ exhibition, it promises to be an immersive experience that allows them to witness the genius of Valverde, exploring the vibrant and profound traditions of Dia de los Muertos.

The exhibition was organized and promoted by La JUNTA Arts Council, an organization dedicated to promoting the arts and culture along LA JUNTA in West Texas.
