El Mural Screening at Crowley Theater: A Glimpse into David Siqueiros’ Argentina Journey

The Bi-National Cultural Council (Consejo Cultural Bi-Nacional de La Junta) will be hosting a free screening of the film, “El Mural” at Crowley Theater today, September 1, at 7 p.m. This event highlights the organization’s commitment to fostering an appreciation for art and culture across border communities.

Originating from the International Border Exchange, the Bi-National Cultural Council comprises members from various border areas including Chihuahua City, Ojinaga, Terlingua, Presidio, Marfa, and Redford. The council aims to enrich sister city communities by promoting various artistic domains such as film, paint, sculpture, and activism.

“El Mural” takes viewers to 1930s Argentina, capturing the life and work of renowned Mexican muralist David Siqueiros. While in the country, Siqueiros paints “Ejercicio plástico” at the residence of newspaper magnate Natalio Botana. The film skillfully reconstructs historical events surrounding the creation of the mural, shedding light on both its public acclaim and private controversies.

Delving deep into Argentinian history, romance, and drama, the narrative presents a multifaceted view of ethics, love, infidelity, and the intertwining lives of its characters. In the vein of a Siqueiros painting, the film paints a world where no character is purely black or white. Instead, they exhibit a spectrum of tones, each revealing their vulnerabilities and strengths.

Community members and art enthusiasts are invited to experience this captivating story and gain insight into the profound impact of art on society.
