Ride for a Cause: The Marfa 100 Offers In-Person and Virtual Races, Benefitting Marfa Public Library This October

The community of Marfa is gearing up for an exciting and charitable cycling event: The Marfa 100. Founded in 2010, this renowned 100-kilometer (62-mile) bike race, set to take place on October 14, 2023, now offers both in-person and virtual options for riders, and this year’s beneficiary is the Marfa Public Library.

The Marfa 100 offers three events: a 100K Race, a 50K Fun-Ride, and a Virtual Ride, with the mission to bring together the community and promote lifelong learning in line with the Marfa Public Library’s mission. The library strives to provide a diverse collection to the community and visitors, and foster exploration, literacy, and engagement through various outreach programs and collaborations.

100K Race: Challenge and Reward

The 100K race will offer participants chip timing, event T-shirts, custom Marfa 100 Pint Glasses, post-race parties, awards for different age categories, and more. Riders will race out and back on Ranch Road 2810, with fully stocked aid stations along the course and local discounts and coupons. The 100K is limited to 300 cyclists, and the course includes a total elevation gain of approximately 2800 feet.

50K Fun-Ride: Enjoy the Scenery

The 50K Fun-Ride allows 100 cyclists to take in the beautiful landscape of Marfa. It includes an event T-shirt, custom Marfa 100 Pint Glass, entry to the post-race party, and a fully stocked aid station along the course. E-bikes and other person-powered modes of transportation are allowed in this event.

Virtual Ride: Cycle from Anywhere

The Virtual Ride allows participants to complete the ride from anywhere, between October 1-17. Virtual riders must complete the full 100k in one go to be eligible for the awards, and e-bike rides are not eligible for awards.
