Presidio County Sheriff’s Office Seeks $420,000 in State Funds to Enhance Border Patrols and Jail Security

The Big Bend Sentinel recently reported Presidio County Sheriff’s Office has applied for over $420,000 in border security funds for fiscal year 2024, targeting improvements in patrols and jail security, as approved by the Presidio County Commissioners. The funds would facilitate the hiring of two additional deputies and increase presence along key transportation routes. A significant portion of the requested money is designated for jail improvements, including the purchase of medical equipment, a full-body scanner, and a mail scanner to increase security measures. This application is part of an ongoing effort, with over $1.4 million awarded through Governor Greg Abbott’s initiative, Operation Lone Star, in previous years.
