Big Bend Reproductive Coalition Kicks Off Community Needs Assessment: Four-Month Initiative to Understand Reproductive and Sexual Healthcare Needs

Cedar Coffee + Supply, located behind Front Street Books, was the host venue last Monday, Aug. 7, for the launch of the Big Bend Reproductive Coalition’s (BBRC) new community needs assessment. The initiative aims to identify the wants and needs of the community concerning reproductive and sexual healthcare.

Spanning four months, the assessment will cover the entire region and include a series of community town halls, an anonymous survey, and door-to-door canvassing. By conducting this comprehensive exploration, BBRC hopes to understand potential service gaps and determine the necessary sexual and reproductive health services for women and people who may be pregnant.

In addition to the kickoff event, future town halls are being planned for several locations, including Marfa, Fort Davis, Terlingua, and Presidio. To make these gatherings accessible to all, they will be free to attend and include Spanish language translation.

Community engagement is a critical part of the initiative, and BBRC has made a public call for volunteers to help with the community needs assessment. Individuals who are interested in volunteering can reach out to morganneBconsulting@gmail.com.

The Big Bend Reproductive Coalition is committed to creating a responsive and inclusive environment that caters to the specific reproductive and sexual healthcare needs of the community. More details about BBRC and the Community Needs Assessment can be found on their website: www.bigbendrc.org. People were also encouraged to join the launch event through BBRC’s partnership with Cedar Coffee Supply.

This multifaceted approach embodies BBRC’s dedication to addressing community health issues comprehensively, reflecting the various needs and perspectives of the people in the region. It marks a significant step towards enhanced healthcare services and represents an inspiring model of community involvement.
